#98: Emil Jonathan “Jon” Soriano – Returning to Simple Church and Integral Mission – Podcast
Emil Jonathan “Jon” Soriano – Returning to Simple Church and Integral Mission
Jon Soriano and Graham Hill discuss returning to simple church and integral mission. The GlobalChurch Project podcast episode #98.
Jon Soriano is the national coordinator at Peace Assemblies Network in the Philippines. He leads a network of house churches in Southern Luzon, in the same country.
Jon Soriano became part of the Institute for Studies in Asian Church and Culture (ISACC) in Manila, which helped him “decolonize” and contextualize Christianity, which he believes helps a lot in applying the principles of simple or organic church in the Philippines.
As the national director of the Peace Assemblies Network, Jon Soriano strives to build partnerships with Christian individuals, organizations, and churches to promote peace or shalom theology. (In a nutshell, peace theology is about harmony with God, with yourself, with others, and with the rest of creation). These networks have been laboring to promote peace talks between the government and rebel groups. At the same time, they are seeking to help bring development to communities embroiled in conflict to build sustainable peace.
Jon Soriano believes that the house and simple church model can seamlessly blend Christian community with integral missions, contextualized ministry, and peace theology.
