Dr. Tite Tiénou is the Tite Tiénou Chair of Mission and Global Theology, and the Research Professor of Theology of Mission, at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. Dr. Tiénou has served as president and dean of Faculté de Théologie Evangélique de l’Alliance Chrétienne in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, West Africa. He has taught at the Alliance Theological Seminary in Nyack, New York. While pastor of a church in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, he founded and directed the Maranatha Institute. He is an active participant in numerous conferences and special lectureships and has contributed many articles to scholarly journals.
Dr. Tiénou’s areas of expertise include mission, theology, and the church in Africa. He resides in the Chicagoland area with his wife, Marie, and their four children.
Dr. Tiénou has authored numerous books and articles, including The Theological Task of the Church in Africa (African Christian Press, 1990), published in both English and French, and Africa Journal of Evangelical Theology. He has written numerous articles, including “Biblical Foundations: An African Study” (Evangelical Review of Theology, 1983), “Christianity in Africa” (AIM International, 1989), “Have we created a religion of spectators?” (The Alliance Life, 1994), “In one case, a slow death, in the other, open warfare” (Evangelical Missions Quarterly, 1986), and “The Future of ICAA [Int Council of Accrediting Agencies for Evangelical Theological Education]” (Evangelical Review of Theology, 1995).
Dr. Tiénou has served as the senior mission scholar in residence at Overseas Ministries Study Center in New Haven, Connecticut and research fellow at Yale Divinity School twice: from January to May 1990 and from January to May 2013. He has also been chairman and chairman emeritus for the International Council of Accrediting Agencies from 1989 to 1992 and was a member of the International Advisory Council for Lausanne II in Manila from 1986 to 1989.
